Weight Loss The Sensible Way

So you have decided to lose some weight. Before you go any further, I would like to inform you that I do not offer miracles.

To lose weight you must have dedication and strong will to do it.

If you cheat or make excuses, you are only cheating yourself and you will not achieve your goal. Please only read this if you are serious about losing weight.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Petra Watson and I am 34 years old. I have two daughters under age 3. After Christmas 09I have decided I am fed up with my big belly and big bum. I could not fit into my favourite pair of jeans. So I have decided to change that. I knew it would not be easy. There were times when I felt frustrated. I love my food and I was not prepared to be doing any of those Atkins diets, Beach Diets etc. And you dont need to be on them either.

I have set myself goal to lose 5 kg and my deadline was May the 6th. Why this date? Because my cousin from Czech was coming to visit me and I wanted to show off of course. I have achieved my goal by end of March. Sooner than I thought and you can do the same. I can now fit into my favourite pair of jeans! ;-) If you follow my tips you too can achieve it.

Firstly ask yourself why you want to lose weight. Is it after you had a baby (or babies), for your wedding, to fit again into your favourite pair of jeans (like me) or simply you are just fed up feeling sluggish. Whatever reason you have I can help you. You do not need to go to the gym and starve yourself.

Dont set yourself unrealistic goals. Be sensible. Only you know yourself. As I mentioned you do not need to go to the gym. However that does not mean you do not need to exercise. There are other ways to exercise than just in gym. Most people get bored or dont feel confident going to the gym. I dont blame them. It is not for everybody. Also a lot of women would not go to the gym unless their friend or partner goes with them. You can exercise at home. I have a fitball that I use for abs and bums exercises. There is an excellent book called Fitball workout by Jan Endacott. It has various exercises including pictures. I have chosen few which I do every day. I also have excellent hula hoop which also massages my intestines.

So how do you start?Well in my case I have printed off a photo of myself when I was happy with my weight. I have put the photo on the wall in our living room. I have to say that photo was very inspirational. If I was feeling lazy and I would look at the photo, it would make me get up and do my exercise. But it may not work for you. Think what would help you to motivate yourself. I have joined free website called You put down your details, your goal and date by you want to achieve it. Please remember to be realistic. Crash diets never work. This is really about the way you eat and burn off calories. This website gives you the tools to record what you eat and the exercise you do, even when you do washing up, clean the house or go for a walk. I would say dont get too obsessed with it. It is good indication on your calorie intake and how much you burn off doing certain things. Even having sex ;-) My advise is once you start do not weigh yourself for at least 2 weeks. You will n ot see results straight away (most of the time anyway) and if would only discourage you and you may want to give up. Trust me! I have been there. Then only weight yourself once a week on the same day. I hear from a lot of women that they are tired or dont have the time to do anything. That is were you are wrong! If you are serious, stop making excuses. The weight will not come off by itself.

Start doing sit ups while you watching TV or when the adverts are on even if you do 5 min at the time. There are always few ad breaks while you watch your favourite programme. So that could be already 15 min before you know. So for example if you have fitball (it does not cost much) do 20 abs exercises. Have a break and do another 10. See how you feel and add more if you can handle it. Dont over do it! It is not worth it. If you are not used to exercise your body needs time to adjust.

My favourite exercise is bum squeezes. Lie down and squeeze your bum cheek. I have started with 50 and now I am on 200. Build it up gradually. There is no hurry. But do it every day. As I said stop making excuses. Set yourself a goal.

You must really want to change. Do not say to yourself from tomorrow. It does not work as you will find yet another excuse. Do it from now on!

Examples of exercise that wont cost you much or even less. Rope jumping if you have a space. Walking, cleaning even ironing will burn off fat.

If you have spare cash go swimming if that is your thing. For me the best way is badminton or tennis. I have so much fun and I don't even now I am burning a lot of calories.

And now the most important part - Food. You do not need to do diets. Diets never work long term. Instead my advice is very simple. If you still put sugar in your tea/coffee, cut down your sugar intake by half and then by half again until you will not need any sugar.

You do not need to stop eating anything. What you need is to cut down your portions. Saying that never ever skip your meals. If you buy sandwich from shop for your lunch, find alternative that has lower calories. Shops always offer this choice. Snack of fruit rather than crisps or chocolate. Although I said you do not need to stop eating anything, you do however need to cut down on the bad food. If you have crisps every day with your sandwich cut it down to once or twice a week maximum. Soon you may not even crave it. Use it as a treat. Same goes for a chocolate or anything like that.

Do you put cheese in your mash? Don't. If you fry your food, put very little oil. Invest in a good non sticky frying pan. You would be amazed how simple change can make a big difference. I am now eating less meat. And I am amazed how less bloated I feel. I still enjoy eating it, just not everyday. I used to love eating kebab. Now my body cannot handle it. But saying that I have started to enjoy fish and chips once a month. As you can see it is not about strict diet. Just simple moderation on how much you eat. Have more veg with your meat instead of pasta. It is really not difficult once you get useto it. I now eat less but still enjoy my favourite food. I still haveegg and bacon for breakfast on the weekends. But instead of having 2 eggs and 2 rashes, I will have 1 of each including toast.

Ensure you drink plenty of water. Try to drink green tea once a day. Researches have shown thatit helps with anything from headaches to water retention. Also it is believed to be great antioxidant.

I do not need to remind you, that alcohol has a lof of calories and it is not all that good for you. I am not much of a drinker anyway so for me it is not a problem. Have it less. You will see it on your waistline in no time and it will be better for your liver too.

And lastly don't stress yourself over losing weight. You do need dedication, but do not lose yourself in watching every single thing you eat. Treat yourself, just not everyday ;-) Moderation is the key to your success. Once you achieve your goal, you obviously need to keep it up otherwise you will end up with gaining weight again.

How to Get an 8-Pack Abs

Eat a clean diet with little or no fat. Eat 6-8 small meals instead of 3-4 big meals. Try eating less of these: oily/fatty foods, simple carbs (sugar), and even meat. Try to eat more fruits, veggies, & fish in your meals. This helps you from gaining fat.

Do aerobic/cardio exercises at least 20 min. 4-6 times a week performing a different exercise each time so your body doesn't become lazy and you don't become bored. This is crucial to reducing your body fat, which you need below 10% for your last 2 packs to show.

Do crunches that work on your obliques & lower abs such as oblique crunches, hanging leg raises, circling leg raises, etc. Working your obliques will tone your sides (love handles) and it works better than normal crunches. Make sure to work your lower abs real well b/c that's how you get your last 2 packs to show.

Sleep early (before 12AM midnight). Sleeping late will make you eat more, but the fat doesn't burn as well at night b/c you're not very active at night; thus you will accumulate body fat. Also, sleeping late will make you tired the next day and then you'll oversleep causing your fat metabolism to slow down. (read my article "How to Sleep Properly" for more info).

A Thing of Beauty is a Joy with Photoshop

Human nature always seems to have this predilection with beauty and what society believes is beautiful. When we are fat, we want to be slim or thin. When we have the so-called love handles, we decide we do not love them anymore, so we go to the gym and exercise until our tongues fall out from fatigue. We are blessed with dark colored skin, so we try all the new bleaching products available in the market to lighten our color. We have white skin so we go to tanning salons to get olive skin, and the out-in-the-sun color to your skin. We are naturally brunette but we go to the nearest salon to get our hair done and died to blonde because they said blondes always have such fun.

And digital technology is also banking on the partiality of people to not have fun with what the Lord has blessed them with originally.

I have been in the digital business for quite some time now, and what I regularly encounter are numerous questions on how to remove blemishes from photos so that their faces would look great and give that fashion-magazine look that the media is glamorizing so much nowadays. Here are a few suggestions then from a photographer on beauty retouching.

(Now, if I could just do it in real life, I would be a millionaire by now.)

Beauty Retouching with Photoshop

1 Try to improve the colors on the face in your photo as far as you can go. To edit, it is better to do it in RGB rather than CMYK. With RGB, editing is more flexible and easy. And explore all the selections in the various feathers. Do not be afraid to experiment. After all, being creative is all about using all the choices available.

2 After editing your color, its now time to create a new layer. This is also a tool for you to be able to control your work. Begin your retouch using a heeling brush and cloning stamp to remove the things you want removed. Start with the bigger imperfections and move your way to the littlest blemish. You could also use the heeling brush to remove the lines under the eyes to create that young look to the face.

3 - To adjust the size of any part of the face (e.g. big nose), adjust to your liking with the Liquify filter. Click the Filters menu and choose Liquify. This tool allows you to smudge, move, squish, and even distort your image according to your satisfaction. For best results and easy navigation, turn the grid on. This will let you view the changes youve made.

For increasing or reducing the size of the area, you can also use the Warp, although the Pucker and Bloat are most effective with this type of retouch. Remember to be careful and again, do not be afraid to experiment. Use the appropriate brush size and go slowly, moving bits at a time.

4 To smoothen the skin, use the cloning stamp and carefully apply to the skin. The best would be to use multiple clicks rather than strokes to even out the skin tone. This is the part where you need to be patient. Be careful with your patterns and do not repeat. Also, try to be creative. Dont worry if you make mistakes along the way. Just go back to the history palette everytime you create something you dont like and start again.

5 For overdoing the smoothing process, just use the history palette to restore the specific area. If this does not work, try to select and add the noise filter to simulate the texture of the skin.

Finally, after a little adjustments and a little nip and tuck here and there, you are ready to view your final image.

According to the photographer, beauty retouching needs patience and a lot of perseverance. Many methods are available, but there are only a few tricks to help others retouch their photos. Even for professionals, this job takes time to finish. However, with time, one can get faster.

1. Beagle

The popular (# 5) Beagle is one of the oldest breeds of dog bloodhound. The smaller Beagle is calm, loyal and excellent with children and other dogs. The race is gay and happy, and they make good pets with the exception of the nose. Once an odor is lighter it will follow to the exclusion of everything else. Lighters are fairly difficult to obedience train because of their independent or stubborn series.

2. Dachshund

Dachshunds are small dog breeds with a long body, short crooked legs and large floppy ears. The popular (# 6) Dachshund comes in two sizes - Miniature and Standard and three varieties of coat - Shorthaired, long haired and naked. Dachshunds Doxies or playful, joyful and curious. Doxies are fine with older children, but do not like the rough handling they may receive from a toddler. Dachshunds can be independent and stubborn and are difficult to tame and train.

3. Basset Hound

The medium to large sized Basset Hound is a short-legged, loose skinned and powerfully built dog with a great sense of smell. Bassets are one of the easiest and best current mood of all dog breeds. The popular (# 27) Basset is very gentle, warm and trustworthy. These dogs love their masters, children and get along well with other animals and strangers. Bassets can be stubborn, especially when they are investigating an intriguing smell.

4. Bloodhound

The Bloodhound very large and powerful is known for his keen sense of smell is most acute of all dog breeds. The Bloodhound is a kind, gentle and kind dogs. The breed is quite popular (# 50) and is gentle and affectionate with his family and children. The Bloody must be supervised in small children and pets as it can be possessive of his food and toys. Bloodhounds are prodigious droolers.

5. Rhodesian Ridgeback

The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a lean, muscular and beautiful, large dog breed. The Ridgeback gets its name from a characteristic peak flow, it's back, where the stiff hair grows in opposite direction to the rest of the dress. The Ridgeback is fairly popular (# 54) and is trustworthy, loyal, intelligent and makes a great family pet. He is extremely protective of her immediate family and wary of strangers and other animals. Ridgebacks are good with children if raised with them, but young Ridgebacks can be too exuberant for toddlers and young children

6. Whippet

Whippet (# 61) is a medium sized dog that view very much like a small Greyhound. The Whippet gets along well with children and makes a good family dog. This breed is of good character, gentle and very playful. Moreover, this dog can be trained quickly, sheds very little and is a perfect size for an apartment. While it is important to know that Whippets like and even expect to sit on furniture - so that should not be a concern if you are considering this breed.

7. Basenji

Basenji (# 81) is a great dog small, elegant and athletic that trots like a horse and keeps fastidious lick clean like a cat. Basenjis do not bark does not make other unusual sounds like a yodel, howl or chortle - depending on his mood. The Basenji is spirited, affectionate, demanding and almost cat-like in its cleanliness, lack of bark, grace of movement and inexhaustible curiosity. This breed needs an experienced owner and lots of walks and recreation to keep it from getting into trouble.

8. Irish Wolfhound

The Irish Wolfhound (# 87) is the largest greyhound and one of the largest and strongest of all giant dog breeds. This breed makes a wonderful family dog as it is reliable, patient, gentle, intelligent and good with older children. The greyhound loves his family and is not aggressive towards strangers or family pets. Toddlers should be supervised carefully around young Wolfhounds as they are in danger of being accidentally knocked. Fully-grown Wolfhounds can be left alone during the day as long as they get some moderate exercise before and after work.

9. Borzoi

The Borzoi (# 94) or Russian Wolfhound is a tall, lean and aristocratic looking large to very large dog that belongs to the group of sight hound dog breeds. Borzoi are kind, gentle and well behaved inside. This breed loves attention and loves to sit on a soft bed, a round or even a couch. Borzoi enjoy the company of other greyhounds, but race is not good with small animals and young children unless raised with them. Borzoi do not need too much exercise and should not be let off leash because they still retain a high prey drive.

10. Afghan Hound

The Afghan Hound Large (# 95) has a character worthy and a bit away but it is also very loyal and loving dog. Afghan puppies and adolescents require a lot of knowledge and patience to train and need firm and gentle handling. This breed can be difficult to tame and train - so professional training may want. Afghanistan needs a lot of exercise but still retains a high prey drive and run off if you let it off leash. The Afghan is suspicious of strangers but can adapt to older children if raised with the family. Be whichever elbow/forearm you're leaning on is in a comfortable position, and then with your opposite hand, which in this case is your left one since you're laying on your right side, place that hand on the back of your head. Now you want to squeeze your body towards each other in a sense, by squeezing your torso and left leg toward each other. The way you pull your leg to your torso is by using the power of your oblique abdominals.

Then you want to hold that position by squeezing for about a second, and then return to the position that you began the exercise in. If you really want to blast those obliques, you can even add some weights to your ankle, or add some weight to your upper body, so the opposing force is greatly increased.

Directions:

1. Lie on your right side of your body, make sure your pivot point is your hips

2. Place your left leg on top of your right one

3. Place your left hand behind your head, while your right one is comfortable on the ground

4. Be sure your weight is on your right elbow/forearm and your right side hips

5. Squeeze your torso toward your left leg using your oblique muscles

6. Hold the squeeze for about a second then return to starting position

7. Repeat this process on your left side after you finish the right side

8. Do about 3-4 reps of 5 for best results

Oblique Crunches:

Oblique abdominal crunches are probably one of the most well known exercises to target your obliques, but that doesn't mean you should think of this exercise's power any less. The oblique crunches are extremely great at blasting your oblique abdominals. The obliques are known by many people as either "waist muscles" or the most well-known term "love handles." The reason that oblique crunches are powerful toward toning your obliques is because you are performing what is known as spinal flexion and rotation. This rotation gives you the best results in both your obliques and even your upper abdominals, which are the six pack abdominals area.

Directions:

1. Lie on your back and cross your left foot over your right knee.

2. As you do this place your hands behind your head.

3. Keep your lower back pressed into the floor and begin to lift your shoulder blades off the floor.

4. Once off the floor, curl your upper body (torso) diagonally across your body towards your left knee.

5. Try to touch your right elbow to your left knee while keeping it place behind your head.

6. Diagonally reach your elbow to your knee by using the power of your obliques and upper abs.

7. Go back down and repeat the process

8. Do the same thing to your opposite knee and elbow.

9. Do about 3-4 sets of 4 or 12-16 reps. on each side

Swiss Ball Side Crunches:

This exercise is performed exactly the way it sounds, but its a little more complex than what you're probably thinking. First of all, you need to be sure you have an exercise ball to perform this exercise with. This variation of the Side Crunch will definitely work your oblique abdominals in a powerful way.

This exercise really blasts your obliques mainly because you are maximizing the side crunch by using an exercise ball. Another reason this is a phenomenal exercise for your obliques, is because the variation of the side crunch adds in a twist for extra toning of your abdominals. Directions:

1. Lay on your back either on a mat or on the flat ground

2. Place your hands behind your head and place your feet on top of the exercise ball.

3. Bend both knees at a 45 degree angle and use your legs, the ball, and the floor to form somewhat of a square.

4. Tighten your torso on one side, and use that tightening to get one of your elbows to touch your knees.

5. Pause for a second at the top of each movement and then slowly bring your head back down.

6. Be sure your movements stay controlled and slow; don't go fast.

7. Make sure to put all the pressure on your oblique muscles, because that's what the workouts designed for.

8. Do 4-5 sets of 5, or do 20 reps each side

Reverse Twists:

This exercise is really going to help you finish tone those obliques, because after this exercise, there's no doubt you'll feel soreness in that area. So let's get started with this exercise.

Directions:

1. Find any kind of heavy object (bench or heavy chair) that has a leg that can be grasped.

2. Be sure this object will provide resistance during the exercise because it doesn't work if the object moves.

3. Lie down on your back, either on a mat or on the hard floor.

4. Turn your lower body towards the left side of the mat and put your right leg on top of your left.

5. Bend your knees at a 90-degree angle with heels and knees together.

6. Put your arms above your head and grip that heavy object firmly.

7. Now lift your legs, while they're still bent and held together at the knees, and point your feet at an angle away from your body.

8. Be sure you keep your shoulders on the floor.

9. Turn your hips and legs to point to the opposite bottom corner of the floor or mat by bringing your legs back to the original position, resting on the floor.

10. Continue the process until you've done 3-4 sets of 5, or 20 reps on each side.

Variation:

Now there is a variation to this exercise, which makes it a bit harder. Actually its quite harder. This variation involves you not using a chair this time, but using your own strength to keep yourself up. This variation gives your obliques a much harder workout, and really blasts them with powerful force.

Directions:

1. Lie flat on your back again.

2. Now extend your arms so that they're in a straight line from your body.

3. Anchor yourself to the floor better, by turning your hands away from your arms in a 90-degree angle.

4. Do the same thing as in the original exercise and bring your legs together above the floor and form a 90-degree angle to your body with them.

5. Lower your legs, without spreading them apart, and bring them to the right at the halfway point between your original position and the floor.

6. Bring your legs back into the original position, while keeping that slow, controlled motion.

7. Do the same thing to your left side and repeat the process. 8. Do about 12-15 reps.

History of Domestic Doves

The familiar snow white domesticated doves that we love are some of the most beloved pets of all time. The dove is believed to have been a favorite tamed bird for thousands of years, having been known as the symbol of peace for a very long time. By Biblical times, the dove had become a familiar symbol. According to the biblical account of the flood, Noah had sent out a raven first, which didn't come back and then a week later, sent a dove that returned with an olive branch in its beak, which was a sign of land and of the peace that was to come. Because of this, it seems, the dove has been kept domestically at least since the early Old Testament Biblical years. In the New Testament, it was a dove that landed on Jesus when baptized by John the Baptist. At that moment heaven was opened and the Spirit of God came down in the form of a dove and landed on Jesus. And a voice from heaven spoke and said, This is My beloved, in whom I am so pleased with! (Matthew 3:16-17). Since the n, the dove has become the familiar Christian symbol of the Holy Spirit. Needless to say, since Biblical days, doves have been kept all over the world. In the beginning, doves were used for sacrifices in religious rituals and for meat, and only later were bred as pets. Several species of dove were originally bred as a food species and are still used as food, today. Many breeds were bred especially for their meat-bearing qualities, the large breast muscles of the dove, being a good quality meat.

Characteristics of Domestic Doves

The best known doves, which are kept as pets today, are the Ringneck and the Diamond Doves. The domestic Ringneck Dove is probably the dove of the Bible. The Ringneck Dove has been bred in several colors. The best known colors are beige-pink and pure white, but there are many other varieties. The original wild colored bird has smooth brown and gray feathers on the back and wings with a rich rose-colored head and breast. The bird is named for its small collar of black feathers around the neck, or in the white variety, a small collar of white feathers growing horizontally against the grain of the neck feathers. These doves measure about 10 to 12 in length from beak to tail tip, and have a wingspan of about 15. The Ringneck Dove is also known as the laughing dove or turtledove, and the white ones are sometimes called the peace dove or sacred dove. They are not natural to the United States, but probably came from Africa or Arabia. Diamond Doves come in a variety of colors as w ell, including reddish browns, yellows, snow white, and silver. The Diamond Dove, sometimes called the Little Dove or Little Turtledove, is naturally from Australia. They were imported to Europe in the late 1800s, and have become one of the most popular tame birds today. Its one of the smallest of the Australian doves, weighing less than an ounce and only about 7 to 8 long. The adult birds' eyes are have orange irises with a pronounced orange-red ring and can often be sexed by its thickness and the color of the wing feathers. At about one year, the males have a silver gray color and a wider eye ring. The females tend toward a brown gray color and have a thinner eye ring. Diamond Doves have a variety of cooing calls, and will sometimes imitate human coos, too. They are very affectionate birds -- when one in a pair returns to the nest, they often greet each other with low, raspy coos and then snuggle with each other if they arent nesting. They will also give their mate several quick pecks around the neck and head while slightly shaking their wings. Diamond Doves are faithful and loving birds.

Doves are in the family Columbidae and are a good choice for beginners, rarely getting sick, and can be kept with other peaceful birds such as finches. They do well both inside and outside and are best kept in pairs. The dove lives an average of about 10-15 years in captivity, though some may live over 25 years. The Dove is best known for its gentle temperament. They are good-natured social creatures that do well, whether kept in indoors in a cage or in outdoor aviaries, as long as they have plenty of room to fly. They do well in outside aviaries if they can slowly adapt to the weather, being tough birds that can take the worst winter weather. The White Dove or Sacred Dove is often thought of as a separate species but it is actually the most common color of the Ringneck Dove. This bird is often confused with the domestic white homing pigeon which is used to release at special occasions (weddings, anniversaries, etc.). The dove shouldnt be released into the wild as it doesn t have the homing instinct of the pigeon. Though it is difficult to distinguish between the two, the smaller species tend to be known as doves, and larger species as pigeons. Doves are generally sleeker and smaller with pointed tails, while pigeons are larger and stockier with rounded tails. Both doves and pigeons can make great pets, but doves tend to be less messy. They are pretty, quiet, have a calming, gentle coo, are fairly easy to tame, generally healthy, require little up keep, and are not too expensive. They are fairly easy to breed and make good parents.

Basic Care of Domestic Doves

In general, doves should be kept in pairs, but if yours was hand reared, and if someone is home often, you can keep it by itself. It wont be lonely, if it has company. Wing clipping is not needed and is not recommended for doves. They can be kept in either indoor cages or in outside aviaries. Cages need to be large enough to allow wing-flapping room in order to avoid hitting tail and wing feathers on the bars. Include at least two natural-wood perches or a perch and a shelf, the shelf being about 6 deep and being the highest of the perches. Perches can be made of natural wood such as fruit tree branches (no pesticides), or of hardwood, about thick. If your doves are kept in a cage, a medium to large sized cage is ideal, as long as they get some flight time outside the cage each week. You do want as large a cage as possible for your doves comfort, and it can never be too large; the bigger the cage, the more enjoyable it is for your doves and you will enjoy your doves more. Just make sure that the bars are close enough together so that your doves heads cant be caught between them. They can hurt themselves, or even die! For a pair of doves, you need a larger sized cage, the larger wrought iron cages being the best. Place three or four perches at least 8 from the sides of the cage, and at least 15 apart to give some flying room. Cages should be located in an area away from heating and cooling sources, open windows, fireplaces and kitchen fumes. You can also add a light attached to a timer for light and warmth. Doves love to bathe, so give them a large, flat dish of water a couple of times a week, or mist the birds with their own clean spray bottle. You should also provide a cuttlebone, and dried grasses for nest building.

Doves eat seeds whole and suck water. Doves are ground feeders, so provide their seed, water and grit on or near the floor of the cage. Provide separate food, water and grit dishes. Grit should include crushed eggshells for calcium, sand for food grinding purposes, and tiny bits of charcoal, which is a digestion aid. Clean, fresh water is needed at all times. Water bowls should be open and fairly deep so your doves can suck water into their bills. Some birds sweep their beaks through the seed looking for their favorites, so you may need to clean under the cage often. Change the food and water every day, and keep the cage bottom clean. Soiled feed on the ground may spoil and cause illness. Doves feed on seeds, fruit, and plants, with seeds and fruit forming the major part of the diet. For regular feeding, a parakeet seed mixture works well. There are also some seed mixtures available, specifically for doves. Though commercial "Dove and Quail Mix" seed is available, its some times hard to find. But commercial seeds or pellets are available at most feed stores. Pigeon pellets or the smaller game-bird pellets (20 percent protein), or "crumbled" poultry feed, if reasonably fresh, are good, and will supply vitamins A and D3, the D3 being needed if direct sun is not available. Grit or sand is also needed and should be provided in a separate dish at all times. Doves enjoy fresh seed grasses and other greens, such as mustard greens and dandelion leaves, whole seeds such as rice, millet, cracked corn or popcorn, vetch, chopped peanuts, safflower, tiny black sunflower, peas and other grains. Some good treats for them are crumbled whole wheat bread, crumbled hardboiled egg yolks, and small pieces of grapes, strawberries, watermelon, or other fruits. Small worms are also good treats.

Training Domestic Doves

Doves are easy to care for and make great pets. They are not known to bite so they can be handled by most people. Doves can be tamed easily with just a little effort. Let your dove(s) see you often, always use slow gentle movements, talk softly, and offer treats from your open hand, and within a few weeks your dove(s) should trust you enough to step up onto your finger. If your dove raises its wing over its shoulder and backs away, try again later. A scared dove can flap against the cage and injure itself. When cornered, a scared dove may also "slap" at you with its wing, although most won't bite or peck. If you let your doves out, they will probably fly up to the highest curtain rod and down to the floor to look for crumbs or nesting materials, usually returning to their cage in their own good time. Their droppings harden quickly, and are easy to clean up. Don't get upset if your doves spend a few minutes each day lying around on the bottom of their cage or on the floor, as long as they get up and go back to their perches within about an hour or so. Doves usually do this in the late afternoon, which is their rest-period. Doves can be sweet and loving pets, given some time and patience by their owners. They are great pets for apartment living, as they are fairly quiet, clean and non-destructive. If you buy a hand-raised young bird, youll be sure to have a tame pet in just a few short weeks. Doves can be tamed with gentle and continued handling, but will be friendliest if bought young from a small breeder who has handled them from the time they were hatched. Doves are beautiful creatures and will provide hours of quiet amusement and pleasure. Their gentle ways and laughing coos offer an interesting and enjoyable atmosphere to any home. Doves are delightful birds and make a wonderful addition to the family. Doves bond easily with humans, especially those that feed them, and a tamed dove, kept alone, will become a faithful and loyal companion.

Breeding Domestic Doves

Owning a mated pair is not needed unless you are breeding or showing them. It is not uncommon for a mating pair to raise several broods in a year, so unless you plan on having a flock, or on selling or giving away some birds, it is best to remove the eggs. Dove hens will probably start to lay eggs at about 6-8 months of age, sometimes even without a male. Often the hen will sit in the food dish to lay her eggs. If you notice this, place an 8 to 10-inch basket in the cage, away from the perches so droppings wont fall in it, then line with paper towels for easy cleaning and put some clean straw or small sticks in it. If you dont want babies, take the eggs out when the second one appears or about four days after the first is laid, since some hens reabsorb an egg once in a while. Hens lay eggs about once a month in the spring, but if kept in warm rooms they will lay year-round, so you may need to take away several eggs per year. If you do want babies, theyll hatch in about two weeks. Both parents will take turns sitting on the eggs and feeding the babies, and when the babies perch on the side of the nest and get ready to try their wings, you can start finger-taming them.

Because doves mate for life, these birds are happiest when kept in mated pairs. When mated birds become separated they will make a two-note call until they become reunited. A mated pair of birds will produce young on a regular basis, with both the male and female incubating the two small white eggs, which are usually laid one day apart. The incubation period lasts about 10 to 14 days, with hatchlings remaining in the nest with parents until one to two months of age. The male will sit on the eggs during the day and the female at night, with both birds brooding together toward the end of the incubation period. The babies are hatched without feathers but are fully feathered within a week and are flying within two weeks. Both sexes produce a highly nutritious substance called crop milk to feed to their young, which are called squabs, and both will feed the young regurgitated food until they are able to eat on their own. Doves are very good parents and will continue feeding the ir youngsters for some time. Sometimes, even before the babies are weaned, the parents will start a new brood.

About the only way to determine the sex of most doves is by watching their behavior. Males, being quite vocal tend to bow, coo, and strut with fanned tails around the female, which are much more reserved. Usually, only males bow coo, but isolated females may bow coo when presented with another bird. Perch coos and nest coos are slower and softer than bow coos, with the nest coo always being accompanied by wing flapping. Perch coos and nest coos are given by both sexes. Some of their vocalizations sound like rippling laughter, from which the common name, laughing dove, comes. The bow coo is the fastest coo in courting behavior, and is always directed at a female with an accompanying head bow, and the feet stamping in an alternating pattern. This courting behavior is enjoyable to watch. The male dove usually begins the mating sequence by flying to the nesting site and calling for the female to join him. Once she is interested, they both fly to the ground where the male will display his tail feathers like a fan, while touching his beak to the ground. Sometimes he will puff up his feathers and strut around the female, repeating this several times. Sometimes, the female will open her beak and the male will feed her like he would a baby, but the actions are much more aggressive and often end with the male aggressively slapping his wings against the ground. After mating the male will give a series of very short coos for a minute or so while both remain very still.

Breeding Cages for Domestic Doves

The only safe way to house breeding doves is to put only one pair to a cage. Males tend to be territorial and may fight, especially when a female is present. Females usually get along well together, but may occasionally fight, too. If you want to breed different colors or to show your doves, you will have to keep them in separate cages as well. This is the only way to be sure of the family line of the offspring. As with all birds, doves need enough room to move around in their cage, to roost and to exercise comfortably. A pair can be kept in as small as an 18 inch square cage but should be allowed to fly around indoors every day. The minimum size for a flight cage should be about 3'x 4'x 6' and can be made out of hardware cloth or welded wire screen. If you want to keep several doves, you may keep them in a loft, like pigeons. The loft may be a built in a garden shed or an out-building that can be converted. When kept in a loft, your doves need to be able to enjoy the sun and fresh air. The best way to do this is to attach a flight to the building, which is an uncovered caged in area that can be as small as a few square feet, or big enough for you to walk into. If the area beneath the flight is bare ground, construct the flight as a suspended cage, so your birds will not come in contact with their own droppings. You also want to keep down the contact between your doves and the droppings of wild birds. The wire used to construct the outer flights must be small enough to keep out small birds, which may transmit disease, and may eat your doves' food. Mice and rats, may also be attracted to the bird food, wasting it, and spreading disease, as well. Larger animals may even kill and eat the doves and eggs. Though doves can become prey to cats and dogs, both cats and dogs can be an advantage to the dove keeper. A pet on guard can get rid of rodent problems and can be taught to stay away from the doves. A well trained pet can be very useful. A good d og will scare off larger pests and may even keep unwanted people and curious children away from your birds. Its your responsibility to keep your doves safe, so the loft must be designed to keep them out. Its best to build on a concrete floor, but if this isnt possible, leave a space under the loft to keep them from getting in. You can clean under the flight with a rake. If you want to be able to walk into the flight, you will need a solid floor of some kind, which can be cleaned and hosed down, to have good sanitation. All surfaces, especially the floor must be easily cleaned, which should be done every day, with the whole area being completely disinfected before each season. Disinfectants that are safe to people and birds are sold by veterinarians and feed stores. On an outside flight the best wire to use is the x 1 welded wire, which will keep out most pests and predators. Mice will still be able to fit through it, so you can use two layers of wire, one being the x 1, an d the other being mesh, which is strong enough to be stapled to a wood frame. You can also wire it to a metal or PVC frame. When your flight is finished, paint it with black polyurethane paint so that your doves can be seen more easily - before putting your doves in of course. How to handle bad Boss?

Do a reality check on yourselfThe first solution in handling a bad boss is an honest analysis of your actions and behavior. Are you a good subordinate? Have you been handling yourself and your job well? If you arent then perhaps it is not your boss who is the problem but you. Please also remember that all bosses have their own ways to do work and like it or not, it is the subordinates who will have to adapt to their ways. They will be quite reluctant to adapt to yours.

Formal CommunicationRegardless of what type of boss you have, an important option you have is to communicate formally with them. Sometimes they may not be aware of their behavior and the aim of the communication process is to let him see your side of the work equation. In the formal meeting, make sure that you talk of the specific behavior in question and tell him how it makes you feel. Leave your emotions at the door, but be prepared for your boss to have an emotional reaction.

Do not make generalized statements like, you are always nasty or everyone in the office does not like the way you manage. Soften your comments and avoid defensiveness by allowing your boss to save face. Praise him if needed initially (obviously he must have his strengths too), so that his defenses may be lowered. When talking about the problem, use statements like "You may not be aware . . ." or "You may not realize . . .". Its possible that your boss is unaware of his/her actions, and this meeting could be very positive for all involved. At the same time, you may realize that you might have made many assumptions about his style of management which may not necessarily be right.

Formal communication may not necessarily solve the problem, but at least you will be sure your boss has been informed of your views, feelings and frustrations. There is no guarantee of success, however, and you need to be aware that your Malaysian boss from a cultural perspective might misinterpret your confrontation as pushy or aggressive behavior. This might lead to an escalation of your conflict with him.

Informal CommunicationMost of the time, the recommended action with a bad boss is to take him or her to lunch or a drink after work to discuss the problem in a non-confrontational way. This type of informal encounter will serve to overcome the problem better as the non-work environment may lessen the tension and thus make it more amicable for a more fruitful discussion. Always thank him for taking the time to have the discussion and impress upon him that your only interest in this discussion is to have a more healthy working relationship.

Ganging UpThis might seem to be an unorthodox solution, but it has its strengths. If several people from the same department voice similar views or frustrations, then there is a chance that the head of department might take heed. This voicing of opinions can take place individually or else at a meeting where everyone is present. If it is the latter, then it has to be handled sensitively, as you do not want to create the impression that there is a mutiny in the department. At the same time, be aware of the fact that there may be some people in the department who might try to gain political mileage out of this situation by being the odd one out of the gang to gain favor. The good thing about ganging up is that it is very difficult for a boss to take the situation lightly as the number of messengers is high, and all carry the same message. Do not however expect the boss to change immediately.

Ask for a Transfer or ResignIf none of these strategies work, then you have two choices. If you really love your job because you are learning a lot and you like the people you're working with, then you will just have to bite the bullet and accept your boss as best you can. Or, if all else fails, ask to be transferred to another department or finally simply hand in your resignation letter. Only you know your own worth, and if you don't feel respected and motivated then just move on. This is a difficult course of action, but one that you must always have as an option. Remember however that the other side may not necessarily be greener.

ConclusionManaging bad bosses is a very difficult and sensitive exercise. Always remember that finding a perfect boss/employee match is almost impossible. There will always be grounds for conflict in any working relationship. You have to try to work on each other's flaws and strong points to complement your work methods. Love Handles Workout

Getting to grips with love handles.

By far the hardest area of your body to tone up and keep looking fit is your abs, or abdominal area. There are too many different exercises and regimes to list here so I am going to give you a basic breakdown of what will work and what you need to do.

There are two main approaches to the battle of the bulge that need to be taken into account when drawing up your plan of attack.

Number one Building and developing muscle. Turning flab into muscle or simply toning up what you already have will help to pull everything into shape.

Number two Loosing excess body fat. Bringing down the amount of fat your body is needlessly carrying around will obviously help to get in shape and stay healthy.

HOW DO I DO IT!!!!!!!

Many people try to focus on the abs and get bored and disheartened very quickly. It is important to incorporate both of the above approaches into what you do to avoid this.

When looking at the first approach of muscle development there are a few good tips that should keep you on track. Exercises for your abs can be done every day; unlike other muscle groups that require a few days rest before being worked over your abs recover very quickly and can be worked on again daily. If you go nuts and give them a real workout that leaves you sore the next day then ok, give yourself a break! Little and often is a good rule of thumb for this task. Build up a repertoire of ab exercises and vary them. You can use one of those Ab-isolators that stop you from putting strain on your neck or go freestyle crunching/sit-ups. If you have the room then an isolator is good if you are not used to doing a proper crunch.

OK so I hear you say What is a proper crunch?. I have coached fighters and it is very important that all the mid section is toned and protected by well developed muscle; heres how they do it.

The Crunch

Lie flat on the floor on your back and bring your knees up so that the soles of your feet are flat on the ground. Place your hands either side of your head so that your fingertips are touching your temples or thereabouts. Now raise your head so that your chin is as close to your chest as it can be without hurting. This is in itself a position that is going to be gently engaging your abs. Now you bring your head forward towards your knees, you should feel your spine curling and uncurling as you repeat this rocking motion. There is very little movement in this exercise it is all about positioning. Ensure that your head is up and your hands are to the side of your head and not behind the neck. Gently rock forward and back about 10 times and then relax and feel the burn. You can vary the direction of the crunch so that you are working the side abs or love handles. You may want to bring one knee up off the ground as you do this to get a deeper twist by moving the knee towards t he opposite elbow and vice-versa. You will see boxers working their abs in this way, usually on an incline bench hugging a heavy weight or medicine ball.

The Sit-up

This is a close relation to the crunch, a little less intense maybe but still important to a well rounded abs workout. Follow pretty much the same steps as the crunch but leave you legs flat on the ground. Some people hook their legs under something to keep them from waving about, or have a training partner hold them down. The full length sit-up should act just as much of a stretch as an exercise as you will discover when you try out these two different techniques.

There are lots of other exercises that you can play around with such as:-

The invisible bike Lie on your back and bring your legs up into the air and start to pedal as if you were riding a bike. You can support yourself by putting your hands under your hips if you are a little wobbly!

Suspension Torture Nothing kinky here Im afraid just an accurate description! Lie flat on your back ensuring that the small of your back is firmly pressed against the floor. Now raise your feet six inches above the ground and hold it there. That is basically it! Of course you can vary this exercise by going one leg at a time, mixing in a bit of air cycling, bringing both knees up to your chest and out again. It may not feel much but wait until you relax those abs and then feel the burn. This is a good indicator as to how effective each exercise is, and it gets quite addictive!

As I have said there are hundreds of different exercises for you to try out and eventually you will come up with what feels right for you.

Ok so now we come to the other side of getting that mid section into shape. Cardio Vascular. Sorry guys but that is it. Good old cardio workouts are the only way you are going to actually reduce the amount of excess fat you are currently hauling around with you. My advice to someone who is struggling to come to terms with the thought of a cardio workout is to remember that its not all about dressing in lycra and joining a gym.

In fact that is probably the last thing you want to do just yet. By far the best exercise your body can have is a good walk in the fresh air. Close runners upare swimming and cyling, butthe easiest and cheapest way to loose weight is to walk. In England people are setting up early morning walking clubs for like minded health conscious people who want a bit of exercise and good company. This is also a great way to get support in what you are trying to achieve and new ideas about how to achieve it!

It is simply a harsh reality that nothing will change without exercise, so make it fun. Dont make it a chore that makes you feel like you have got to do it, make it part of your master-plan to conquer sloth, batter obesity, punish the paunch and loose the love handles!

Why We Must Destroy The System of Mandatory Tithes And Manipulated Offerings

The End of Clergy Manipulation & Extortion

The modern system of mandatory tithes and manipulated offerings is false and built upon tradition supported by lies and lies supported by tradition. It must be destroyed.

Debating tithes is like debating the subject of Santa Claus. What is his Christmas Eve route? Does he really know whos naughty or nice? How does he read all of those letters? How does one (and why would anyone) debate these issues?

Modern tithes, like Santa Claus, have no basis for an intelligent argument. Its nonsense to argue about religious fiction. This gives credence to a myth. Yet we preachers desperately argue the merits of our tithe myth because it is scandalously profitable, and because American Christianity is obscenely dependent on money.

A money mentality governs the American church. Many Christian ministry decisions are based more on cash flow than on love for Christ and people. Some will label these statements extreme. Others will see them as stating the obvious: A large part of the American church is greedy and exploitative.

We Do Not Condemn the Good with the Bad

We dont need an anti-tithe version of the Salem Witch Trials or of the Inquisitions. Jesus warned us not to hurt true Christians in unwise zeal for purity.[1] It is irresponsible to condemn all ministers who raise funds for ministry. But it is also irresponsible to remain silent about harmful fundraising schemes of most of the churchs leaders. Therefore, I try to distinguish clearly between the innocent and guilty.

The visible church consists of true and false Christians, strong and weak Christians, intelligent and ignorant Christians. The accusation of church greed and exploitation, as well as clergy manipulation and extortion, must be considered within this context. The church is one body, but comprises hundreds of millions of parts, or members, who are at varying levels of individual commitment, spiritual growth, and health.

The left hand may be diseased, but the right hand may be healthy. Or the right shoulder may be damaged, but the rest of the body is fine. So I joyfully acknowledge that a few parts of the body have escaped organized and systemic greed, manipulation, and extortion.

Nonetheless, although the entire body is not diseased, the disease affects the entire body. The disastrous effects of church greed and materialism have made virtually every Christian leader and ministry look like thieves and hypocrites. The sad thing is that many Christian leaders and ministries are thieves and hypocrites and dont even know it.

We easily understand that a Judas will create clever ways to steal money. He may raise funds in the name of Christ for his own purposes. Or he may simply grab the money bag and run off to Mexico. It breaks our heart. It shocks us. But it doesnt permanently confuse us. We simply conclude that our former leader is a thief.

Some Good Preachers Are Stealing from Us

What we find more difficult to discern and process is that true Christian clergy with good hearts can and regularly do steal from us. Different methods may be used, but the result is the same: Gods money is wasted, misappropriated, or stolen.

When I say stolenI dont mean that good ministers purposefully commit theft or fraud. Relatively speaking, I dont believe many ministers do this. Actually, on Judgment Day we will probably find that a commendable percentage of clergy served God with integrity.

Nonetheless, we will also find that pervasive false financial doctrines devastated the collective integrity, effectiveness, and efficiency of the church, especially in America. We will see these doctrines as spiritual fraud. We will also find that these frauds were vigorously taught by many good preachers who earned our respect through their moral lives and apparent commitment to Christ and His church.

These goodpreachers may be wonderful people and genuine Christians, but they are so blinded by church tradition that they cant see the wickedness of their fundraising tactics. Their overdependence on money distorts their ability to discern right from wrong, at least where money in ministry is concerned. They never see that much of what they teach about Christian giving is based on traditions of men rather than commands of God. They also never see that the real reason they are incredibly interested in our giving habits is self-interest: They covet our money.

This is the intoxicating power of money in ministry. It is a spendable liquor that perverts judgment and turns wise men into fools. It even makes good men behave as bad men. Men who would choose death before committing an actual theft of church funds regularly steal Gods glory by corrupting His image.

This corruption steals not only Gods glory, but the churchs inheritance and the worlds salvation. Thus, these otherwise goodmen are guilty of the grossest spiritual thefts and frauds.

Cash Flow Has Taken the Place of the Holy Spirit

The American church is rife with financial false doctrines. The foundation of these doctrines is mandatory tithes, and not far behind are coerced and manipulated offerings. These doctrines of demons must be challenged.

You may question the wisdom of debating such effective ways of raising funds. What would happen to Christian ministries if mandatory tithes and manipulated offerings were exposed as heretical and ungodly? Would this not severely damage the work of God? Is this books purpose the repossession of church properties? Do we want to see missionaries abandoned? Are we advocating bankrupting the church?

Certainly some in the church would admit that reform is needed in the area of soliciting offerings. But the tithe? The tithe is untouchable! Its the backbone of the ministry! We cant make it without the tithe! Everything we do depends on the mandatory tithe! And that is exactly why we must challenge this sacred error. It has replaced the Holy Spirit.

The churchs work should not depend on the guaranteed cash flow of mandatory tithes. When it does, leaders are reduced to servants of cash flow instead of servants of Christ.

Two False Assumptions of Cash Flow

Cash flow is wonderful. Id rather have it than not have it. But when ministry decisions are based on cash flow instead of the dictates of the Holy Spirit, we make ourselves slaves of cash rather than of Christ. The decision-making process becomes poisoned by false assumptions. Namely, that money ultimately determines what can or should be done for God. These assumptions produce two unwanted results: overdependence on money and direction by cash flow.

First, money does not ultimately determine what can be done for God. It is only one of many tools that may facilitate or accomplish a goal for Christ. Examine the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and you will find surprisingly little money being used to accomplish Gods will. The use of money was incidental and not critical, and nowhere do we find our great Gods hands tied for lack of money. On the contrary, we are given many examples of God performing His will through, to, or for His people whether they had money or were flat broke!

George Muller was a 19th century English preacher who gave the universal church a timeless and invaluable gift: a testimony of what can be accomplished by faith and prayer alone. Over his long life1805 to 1898he housed more than 10,000 orphans, distributed tens of thousands of Bibles, and was the sole support of hundreds of missionaries. Today organizations do similar things through fundraising, but he used nothing but faith and prayer.[2]

George Muller absolutely refused to advertise his needs, drop strategic hints, or go into debt. In fact, his primary goal was not to care for orphans, distribute literature, or support missionaries. It was to prove to the church that God is faithful and can be depended on to keep His Word. Two of his diary entries powerfully make this point:

I want to be the servant of the Church in the particular point on which I had obtained mercyin being able to take God at His Word and rely upon it.

This seems to me best done by establishing an orphan housesomething which could be seen by the natural eye. If I, a poor man, simply by prayer and faith obtained, without asking any individual, the finances for establishing and carrying on an orphan house, this might strengthen the faith of the children of God. It would also be testimony to the unconverted of the reality of the things of God.

This is the primary reason for establishing the orphan house. I certainly desire to be used by God to help the poor children and train them in the ways of God. But the primary object of the work is that God would be magnified because the orphans under my care will be provided with all they need through prayer and faith. Everyone will see that God is faithful and hears prayer (p. 73).

Second, the availability or unavailability of cash flow should not determine our direction in ministry. Ministers and churches that do not walk closely to the Lord are more prone to trust in their funds than in the ability, timing, and methods of God. They are unskilled and undisciplined in the art of praying, waiting, and recognizing the voice and moving of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, they make decisions based on protecting and increasing present or anticipated cash flow. Yet cash flow for a project does not validate it or prove that God agrees with our plans.

The False Dilemma of Either-Or

Here is where my position will inevitably be challenged on the false dilemma of either-or. A false dilemma is when two options are erroneously presented as the only available. You can have eitherthis or that, but not both, and never an entirely different option. The false dilemma in the church is that we must choose either the extreme of overdependence on money or the extreme of not enough money. However, there is a third option.

This is to radically change our ministry model. Presently our model is to subjectively, and sometimes arbitrarily, get a vision (of course, well say it came from God) and then raise money to bring it to past. We do this by telling Gods people overtly or subtly that they must finance our ideas or be directly or indirectly cursed by God. Of course, every appeal for financial support isnt as brash and crude, but unfortunately, many are sickeningly close.

Others use the softer approach of appealing to their followers greed and love of pleasures. This is done by carefully presenting scriptures out of context. The tactics used depend on the charisma of the manipulative leader and the sophistication of the manipulated Christians.

Some Christians tolerate and even embrace strong-arm fundraising tactics. They are predisposed to slavery. So you can abuse them in the name of the Lord and get away with it. For some reason, many of them are perversely satisfied by ministerial abuse.[3]

Others, who are naturally turned off by domination, will not tolerate such foolishness for one moment, so a more subtle approach is used.[4]

A New and Honest Way to Raise Money

Here is where we must fundamentally change how we do business. Instead of getting a grand idea and coercing or manipulating Gods people to finance it, why not be honest? Why not present the idea as just that, an idea? Why not deal with our followers the way God deals with us? He tells us the truth and is patient, kind, and loving, and never does He put anything on us we cant bear.

Ministers, however, often see no problem with placing the burdens of their financial decisions on Gods people. Would it not be a better testimony to the world, and a better demonstration of love and integrity in the church, if we humbly presented our ideas and allowed Christians to give based upon what they hear directly from the Holy Spirit?

I am sure this concept throws many ministers into a state of utter paranoid anxiety. The very idea that the untrained, unsophisticated masses should be allowedand God forbid, taught!to hear from God for themselves rather than through a burdensome, exploitative system of professional religious middlemen is heresy and anathema! And ministers fears are well justified, for an incredible amount of Gods money is routinely squandered on fleshly ambitions, runaway visions, obscene salaries, duplicated services, expensive real estate, and underperforming ministry.

These professional, religious middlemen know that an empowered church, or better yet a Himpowered church, would put the brakes on much of what happens in the name of the Lord. Oh, there would still be funds raised for unneeded buildings, and salaries for people who should be working in what we mistakenly call secular jobs, and projects that never were approved by the Holy Spirit, but there would also be a revolution of accountability, integrity, and efficiency in the church.

This revolution would remove much of what religious middlemen use to empower themselves: Namely, guaranteed cash flow through the false doctrine of mandatory tithes and offerings. Absence of guaranteed cash flow creates an environment where professional ministers must use something other than threats of Gods curses or bribes of His blessings to raise funds. Perhaps we could use the novel approach of deliberating the proposal, waiting on God, searching the Scriptures, examining the character and track record of the person seeking our money, and deciding accordingly.

But Will Christians Give without Threats and Bribes?

Someone will inevitably bring up the possibility and probability that some Christians will use this freedom to say no to actually say no. How do we handle this concern?

Will people use their freedom irresponsibly? Some always have and some always will. This will go on until the Lord returns, but Gods answer to irresponsibility has never been to limit our ability to make bad decisions. God didnt hide the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden to keep Adam and Eve from eating of it and suffering horrible eternal consequences. He placed them near it to prove their love. God did this knowing His creation would choose death instead of life. The Lord set this precedent and I believe it is safe to follow His example of freedom in our giving.

For some, this freedom will be a Tree of Life. They will use their newly found liberty to obey God. This will result in generous, spontaneous, and planned giving to causes approved by God, though not necessarily approved by man. The money will often not pass through clergy hands, but the support of professional, religious middlemen is not the priority. Obedience to the Holy Spirit is the priority.

For others, this liberty will be a Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. They will use their newly found freedom to justify selfishness. Many legitimate opportunities to give will come their way. Some will come through professional, religious middlemen. Others will come through direct contact with a person in need. Yet there will always be a seemingly good reason to not give. And if this latter category of people does give, the amount will usually be far less than what it should be (lessnot according to the demands of man, but the demands of love). But this is a matter for God and not us. Our job is to humbly preach the gospel, and not to prematurely judge people for the amount of their financial gifts.

The freedom spoken of in this book is scary, but not new. It is as old as Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Generally, professional, religious middlemen hate this freedom for several reasons. Here are a few of them:

It frees Gods people to think for themselves. This breaks the unholy monopoly power that religious professionals exercise over Jesus people.

It allows the Holy Spirit to directly instruct Gods peoplewhen to give, how much to give, and to whom to give. This puts every fleshly financial project at risk of being stripped of undeserved cash flow.

It requires religious, professional middlemen to walk extremely close to the Lord. This means projects that dont come from God are no longer automatically supported by manipulated followers of Christ. Clergy would then have to spend considerably more time in prayer than in business meetings, conferences, Starbucks, or watching television. This is a terrifying thought for many fleshly preachers.

It places stringent qualifying criteria on financial appeals for buildings and salaries. This threatens the very foundation of superficial and misdirected Christianity. But financial accountability is not too much to ask of someone who demands our money.

It makes it harder for preachers to manipulate Gods people into taking care of their ambitions and personal financial needs. This addresses one of the main stumbling blocks to salvation of intelligent people who see glaring contradictions in the life of Christ and the greed and materialism of His so-called followers.

It forces preachers to be patient in their ambitions. This takes away their ability to prematurely commit Gods resources without at least being seriously scrutinized and questioned by the church.

A Revival of Financial Integrity in the Church Is Possible

I earnestly believe that What Your Preacher Never Told You about Tithes and Offerings is the articulated groanings of the heart of God and of multitudes of people who know that something is dreadfully wrong with the financial practices of the church. This includes Christians and non-Christians. All are fed up with the financial sins of the church.

This effort is by no means a perfect treatise against such an old, entrenched, and formidable clergy money-maker. Every page testifies of my imperfection. Still, as He did to the walls of Jericho, God may yet mercifully roar upon these words and miraculously crumble the impregnable walls of financial clergy domination and manipulation.

I pray that God will use this book to spark a flame that will devour every trace of financial waste and abuse in the church. The Reformation was sparked by men with a flame in their heart and a pen in their hand. Words on paper have changed the world before. It can happen again.

His 60-year example of trusting God is exactly opposite of what we see in modern preachers. He never used the tithe to raise funds because his trust was in God and not in man-made financial fundraising schemes. He says on page 195: How much should you give of your income? God lays down no rule concerning this point."
