How Can You Lose Love Handles?

Love handles...many of us know at least one person or more who has them. But, what are they? Well, Love handles are essentially fat deposits around the stomach are and sides of your stomach. The fat that is exists on your sides, we usually refer to as "love handles". Although the expression might be endearing, there is nothing endearing about them. They are excess fat; which are very unattractive.

So, how do we lose love handles. Contrary to one's belief, sit-ups will not do it. Sit-ups only builds muscle beneath the fat; which actually makes the stomach look even bigger. Why? Well, you now have not only the fat that still remains, but you have also added muscle to it; thus, the tummy looks larger. You need to combine stomach exercises with aerobic activity.

The best way to lose belly fat is to start with a weight loss program by cutting out the starches, sugars, and white breads. Next, incorporate the healthy stuff; such as, lean meats, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy.

Next is cardio exercise where you burn off the excess body fat. Find a cardio exercise you think you will enjoy and do this on a daily basis. Some execises you could do include swimming, walking, bicycling, or running. Your goal is to engage in these cardio activities 3 to 5 days a week for 45 minutes. It won't be easy at first, but this does work. Make sure you keep your heart rate up for at least thirty minutes.

Next is to start working on your abdominal muscles. Exercises like crunches, pilates, and situps will tone and strengthen the core muscles. But, as stated above, these exercises must be done along with your aerobic activity. It does not matter how much stomach exercises you do, if your abs are covered in a layer of fat, you won't see the results of your hard work. This is why it is important to lose love handles first by following the first two steps first before you begin the strength training routine. And, just to clarify, the first two steps are change your diet and aerobic exercise.

Some additional items you should include in your exercises to lose love handles are:

- Drink more water...2 liters per day should be a minimum for woman and 3 liters for men
- Eat more protein...meat, cottage cheese, low fat milk, eggs are just a few sources of protein
- Reduce carbohydrate consumption...avoid white carbs like pasta, rice and potatoes
- Skip carbohydrates before sleep.

These tips are some easy ways to lose belly fat fast. Following them will make a definite difference and improve your overall health, appearance, and reduce stress in your life.
